Throughout the month of March, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is celebrating Arts Education Month in California. CVESD has an award-winning Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program where students regularly access the arts during their school day. We know the importance of art education, its importance for student development, and its benefits, such as emotional expression, cultural preservation, and aesthetic proficiencies.
Our VAPA program’s mission is to provide inclusive, purposeful, and standards-based arts instruction to every student, fostering their creativity, self-confidence, and critical thinking skills through the arts. Our program has focused on building a strong arts community where teachers can collaborate and provide community-building efforts through our performances and showcases.
That is why we are a California music education leader. CVESD has received recognition as the Best Community of Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants. This designation is awarded to only a few school districts in California. We are the only district in San Diego County to have received this award for five consecutive years. Our teachers and administrators have also received awards from the California Music Educators Southern Border Section.
As we celebrate the importance of arts education this month, we commend all our VAPA teachers who are committed to ensuring every student has access to the arts at CVESD. Thank you for bringing an important part of student education to our schools.
