The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) proudly joins communities nationwide in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child. To recognize the strength, resilience, and shared experiences of military-connected students and their families, the CVESD Board of Education has adopted a resolution honoring this special month.
Military children often face unique challenges while consistently demonstrating courage, adaptability, and a global perspective that greatly enrich classrooms and communities. To honor them, CVESD schools are hosting spirit days, activities, and events throughout the month. A highlight of these events is Purple Up Day, when students and staff wear purple to symbolize unity and collective appreciation.
To further support military-connected students during the year, CVESD partners with a Naval Base liaison officer to address their needs. In addition, Military Family Life Counselors provide valuable resources and guidance at schools with the highest military enrollment.
The district is also proud that six schools – Enrique Camarena, Anne and William Hedenkamp, Heritage, Fahari L. Jeffers, Saburo Muraoka, and Corky McMillin Elementary – have received the California Purple Star School designation, a recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate exemplary comprehensive support for military-connected students.
Through these efforts, CVESD remains committed to ensuring that every military-connected student feel seen, valued, and prepared to thrive in the classroom and beyond. To learn more, visit the following Military Families page on the district website.
