Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School marked a major milestone this June with a time capsule ceremony to celebrate its first full year since opening. The commemorative event, held on June 4, brought together students, staff, and district leadership to reflect on the school’s beginnings and bright future.
Led by Principal Martha Garza and CVESD Superintendent Eduardo Reyes, Ed.D., the ceremony featured 25 students who each contributed an item to the time capsule and shared a short speech about the meaning behind their selection. From handwritten letters to small keepsakes, the artifacts captured the school’s hopes, memories, and dreams for the future.
“As the newest school in our district, Sonia Sotomayor Elementary represents both our commitment to academic excellence and the vibrant spirit of our community,” said Dr. Reyes. “Today’s event not only celebrates the past year but invites future generations to rediscover this moment in 2045.”
The time capsule was sealed and buried at the front of the school, where it will remain for the next 20 years.
