Learn details about our District’s distance learning plan via a narrated presentation by Matthew R. Tessier, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Instruction. The presentation was most recently shared at a Virtual Back-to-School Distance Learning Town Hall hosted by state Assembly District 79. The forum provided leaders from a number of school districts an opportunity to explain their reopening plans to parents based on changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our Distance Learning 2.0 will be supported by an array of partners and stakeholders to ensure a robust learning experience for our students,” Dr. Tessier said. “Students in Chula Vista will engage in daily live interaction with teachers and peers, and their progress will be tracked and assessed at the classroom, school, and District level. Student work will include content aligned to grade level standards and pupils will receive high quality, intellectually challenging assignments.

To ensure pupil participation and progress, teachers and administrators will use materials including Achieve 3000, Benchmark Education, I-Ready, and Go Math programs. Reports and progress monitoring tools within these programs will provide vital information on student progress, Dr. Tessier said.

Microsoft Teams is the primary platform for teacher/student interaction and provides analytics to track and monitor “synchronous” minutes, online instruction that takes place in real time (live) with the classroom teacher, he said. This could include direct and live instruction to students through video conferencing, telecommunications, live interactive chats, and discussion forums.

“We’re very excited about the opportunities to innovate and pioneer learning in a new way,” Dr. Tessier said. “We have an amazing group of teachers, and administrators that will help our students succeed in distance learning until we are able to safely hold in-person classes.”
