Cesar T. Fernandez was appointed to the Board in August 2021 and again in November 2022.  His term expires in December 2026. He is a father of two children, one of whom currently attends Lilian J. Rice Elementary School.

Mr. Fernandez was born and raised in San Diego, California. He comes from a proud family of educators. Mr. Fernandez began his career in education as a custodian in the San Diego Unified School District while attending college. He then became an Instructional Aide. He graduated from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a B.A. in Mathematics. Mr. Fernández then earned his Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. He has spent over twenty years teaching mathematics in both the San Diego Unified School District and most recently in the Sweetwater Union High School District. He currently works in the State and Federal Department of Sweetwater overseeing before and after school programs throughout the district.

Mr. Fernandez believes in districtwide student-centered and empathy-focused programs. He is a voice for students, an ally for teachers and district staff, and a bridge for community stakeholders.
