Two Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) educators receive 2023 California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Southern Border Section Fortissimo Awards. Dr. Lydia Burgos, principal of Lauderbach Elementary School, won the Outstanding Administrator Award, and Caitlin Mehta, a VAPA teacher at Otay, won the Peripole General Music Educator Award.

Exceptional music educators and school administrators that lead the way in support of music education, are nominated by their peers and voted on by CMEA Southern Border Section (SBS) Executive Board members. Through their collaboration, support, and advocacy at their school sites, Dr. Burgos and Ms. Mehta have ensured that their students and community continue to benefit from the power of music education.

CMEA is a federated unit of the National Association for Music Education. Their vision is to ensure that all California students have equal access to high-quality music instruction as part of a well-rounded education.
