In honor of Women's History Month, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) Board of Education has designated March as a time to celebrate women's extraordinary contributions throughout history, culture, and society. As part of this month-long celebration, CVESD is celebrating Women’s History Month by designating March as Women’s History Month in the district. This year’s theme is "Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion." This timely theme recognizes women who speak up and lead changes in their fields.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District proudly honors all women who have contributed to society and continue to do so today. Many of our schools are named after historic women trailblazers who have made a difference in our community. From one of our oldest schools, Lilian J. Rice Elementary, named after the female architect who designed it in 1938, to Hazel Goes Cook Elementary, named after a board member who served the district for 50 years and advocated for all our students' education.
Women leaders continue to impact our school community today; our newest school, Fahari L. Jeffers Elementary, is named after the late civil rights and labor leader committed to social justice and equality. Sonia Sotomayor Elementary will be open in the 2024-25 school year and honors Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
CVESD encourages our community to learn more about the women who have made extraordinary contributions to our community and continue to do so. Join us as we celebrate Women’s History Month all month long.
