At the Chula Vista Elementary School District, we recognize the pivotal role that speech and language services play in students’ education. Our dedicated Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) and Speech Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPA) work tirelessly to support and enhance our students’ communication abilities.
Our team of SLPs and SLPAs support students in progressing toward their current Individual Education Plan (IEP) speech and language goals, which may include providing direct therapy services, collaborating with other service providers, and assessment. They also craft thematic materials tailored to each student's individual needs. Whether through interactive books, arts and crafts, engaging games, or hands-on science experiments, every activity is designed to foster communication skills in a fun and meaningful way.
Every day, SLPs and SLPAs work with students to progress their language skills, grow their confidence, and expand their independence. SLPA Priscilla Jimenez emphasizes the power of collaboration, “As an SLPA, I am most proud of our team and the benefits our collaboration has produced. With the diversity in knowledge and skills within our team of teachers and service providers, we have built a strong support system for each other as well as our students.”
CVESD recognizes the important role of SLPs and SLPAs in ensuring student success. Their expertise makes a lasting difference in students' lives. SLP Katie Balow shares with CVESD that the most rewarding part of her job is how students get excited to see her. "Whether during group interactions in classrooms or the hallway, their greetings and hugs fill me with joy,” said Ms. Balow. Seeing their progress towards their goals is very rewarding.”
On Speech Pathologist Day, we honor and celebrate the hard work of our SLPs and SLPAs!
