School Menus
We believe in nourishing young minds by participating in the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. At all our elementary school sites, including preschool programs, we serve delicious breakfast and lunch daily.
We know how important it is for students to understand where their food comes from and appreciate what's on their tray. That's why, since 2012, we've teamed up with Food 4 Thought to bring the freshest seasonal produce straight to our school sites. Food, 4 Thought sources quality products from small, family-owned California farms committed to student health. They enable us to offer three to five produce options through their Farm to School Program. You can view our school menu to see what we are offering this month.
At Child Nutrition Services, we follow the "Offer vs. Serve" program set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This means your student gets to make their own lunchtime decisions. They can pick one out of three delicious entrees for lunch, and choose from 1% white milk or non-fat unflavored or flavored milk to go with it. Students can also load up their trays with as many fresh fruits and vegetables as they want. For breakfast, they can choose from three different entrees, grab fruit, and enjoy 1% or nonfat unflavored milk.
Nutrition Information
We strive to offer the best quality products in our cafeterias and continually look for new ways to bring more appealing and nutritious foods. The USDA highly regulates us which means we cannot serve just anything in our schools. We must serve various fruits, vegetables, and whole grain products lower in sodium and saturated fat. Everything we serve is a healthy counterpart to what may look like a "fast food" menu. For more detailed information on our service items, please contact our registered dietitians at (619) 425-9600, Ext. 181407 or Ext. 181408.
Harvest of the Month
Several local school districts initially created Harvest of the Month in California as part of a broader nutrition education effort targeted toward lower-income students. Recognizing the value of this approach, the California Department of Public Health adopted Harvest of the Month in 2005, launching a statewide effort that is standardized, cost-effective, replicable, and available to all.
The program aims to increase the access and consumption of locally grown fruits and vegetables through school meals and farm-to-school programs. It also aims to expand familiarity with California-grown fruits and vegetables, local farmers, the State's rich agricultural bounty, and how food travels from the farm to our plates.
Child Nutrition Services partnered with other San Diego County School Districts by adopting a yearly Harvest of the Month calendar to ensure the farmers know what to grow based on what we want to serve in our school. This will allow us to promote different types of produce in our school cafeterias each month and ensure that it is ready and available for consumption by our students.
Allergy Information
Your student's safety is paramount to us. We work as a team with our dietitians, parents, nurses, and cafeteria staff to ensure the proper meal accommodation is made for the students who require it. If you feel your child needs special meal accommodation, please have you child’s doctor fill out a medical statement to request special meals and turn the form in to our dietitians or a school nurse. If your child is requesting a fluid milk substitution, please fill out the form below and turn the form in to our dietitians or school nurses. While our cafeterias do not offer any peanut or tree nut items, we cannot guarantee that all products are made in nut-free facilities.
Please see forms and documents below for menus, allergen lists, and carb counts.
