During the month of March, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is celebrating National Nutrition Month, highlighting our mission to provide every student with a nutritious and delicious meal needed for a full day of learning.
National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign during the month of March created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics where everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits. The theme for 2024 is “Beyond the Table.”
At CVESD, our Child Nutrition Services Department (CNS) thoughtfully curates breakfast and lunch options for students to thrive for a full day of learning. With our registered dietitians' help, we create delicious menus that provide the nourishment our students need to thrive academically and physically. Amid an ongoing effort to provide students with vibrant, nutrient-rich food options, CVESD partners with local farms through our Harvest of the Month Program to bring seasonal produce to the forefront of our menus.
We know the importance of students learning about where their food comes from, and that’s why CVESD also started the Day in the Chef Program, where district chefs visit school sites and cook homemade meals in an engaging demonstration. Students can ask questions, see the food being prepared, and learn about where their food comes from.
Thank you to CNS and school site personnel for providing fresh and new options for our students. To learn more about CNS click here.
